To be, or not to be – responsive websites

Responsive Web Design One of the more common terms bandied about nowadays is “responsive” websites.

What exactly is a responsive website, and should your website be responsive?

A responsive website is one that automatically adjusts itself so that it is easily viewed in any device; it will look different in a mobile phone when compared with a tablet, and again different when viewed on a desktop computer – but always the site’s content is easy to read, understand and everything important is included.

As for the answer to “should your website be responsive?”

Ask yourself this question. “How many of my clients view my website on a device other than a desktop computer?” Don’t know the answer? Ask your clients. You’ll be astounded by the results.

Still not convinced that a responsive website is necessary? If you have a current website, take a look at it on a tablet – how easy is it to maneuver around the site? If you’re looking for something specific, is it easy to find? Then move onto a cellphone – the smaller the screen, the harder it is to scroll and move around. That is why responsive websites are important – instead of having customers leave your site for a competitor’s site that is easier to navigate, they can use your site easily—increasing sales for you.

More and more shoppers are gravitating to their mobile device to look up businesses. This is not only when they are out and about, either; it is more common for visitors to exclusively use their mobile device to look up sites, especially with the wide range of larger tablets and phablets (combination phone and tablet) devices available.

So you’ve decided that your website needs to be responsive. What now? Contact Bateman Design Group, where we can take a look at your existing website (or create you a brand new one) and ensure that everyone can see your site, no matter what device they are using.
