Being passionate about your work and loving what you do makes it easier get up every morning, looking forward to the day ahead.
That passion not only gives you joy in your every day, but shows customers that you care—no matter what industry you are in, or what role you have—people notice when you enjoy your work.
Don’t worry that you will lose that passion if you take on what you love to do as a career. Granted, there will be days that are more monotonous, or when everything seems to go wrong—but if you can lose yourself in doing the work that you love, you will definitely be happier and your productivity will show it.
Recently I read an interesting book – “Looptail – Why Community, Culture and Karma Matter in Business” by Bruce Poon Tip. In it, he says “Work doesn’t have to be an exercise in clock-punching in order to put food on the table.” So much of today’s culture is a bland shuffle of rushing to work, then counting the hours and the minutes before you can rush home again.
The word “work” brings to mind digging in trenches, hard physical work that leaves you tired at the end of the day. But change that to “passionate work” and you’ve got an entirely different idea. You’ve got someone who cares about the work that they do, puts in 110% in every situation, and lends a helping hand—unasked. A passionate person will see the whole picture of a business, rather than focused on the role that they play.
So if you find yourself dreading getting up in the morning; it might be time for an attitude change. Instead of “working” every day, why not work on being passionate about your job? Find aspects that you enjoy, make yourself invaluable in those aspects, and you’ll be a happier person all around.
