Hello! I’m Julie Bateman
I’m an experienced web designer operating in Barrie, Ontario since 2003.
Whether you’re a new business owner, ready to have your first website designed, or part of a marketing team that works with a large brand, I’d love to work with you.
I have experience working with WordPress and Shopify, and have a team of web programmers available for custom projects.
In 2007, I created Asskicker Activewear as a side project, which continues to provide me with unique perspective as a startup business owner as well as a website designer. During that time, I’ve gained valuable insight into the website and marketing elements that directly effect conversion rates and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
Asskicker Activewear was a Top 75 Finalist in the 2018 FedEx Canada Small Business Grant Contest and rose to the top of the 2,100+ entries.
I’ve also worked with Canada’s largest independent sales, marketing, and retail agency for the last couple years, as a white-labeled part of their team. During that time, I’ve been working on conceptual design and development and/or building out assets for campaigns that were designed by the client’s in-house design team. Campaigns often include a series of web banners, landing pages and email sequences in English and French.
I work remotely from a home office, love my job and am available as a freelance part of your team, as an independent contractor, on a per-project basis or with a monthly retainer system for ongoing projects.
SOFTWARE & PLATFORMS
- Adobe Creative Suite: Fully proficient in Adobe software including Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe XD, InDesign, Acrobat Pro.
- Certified Shopify Partner: Experienced using Shopify’s custom storefront solutions and best practices for e-commerce websites.
- WordPress: I use the Divi Themebuilder to complete design framework that allows me design and customize every part of my client’s websites from the ground up.
- Microsoft Teams: Experienced using Microsoft Teams for collaboration with the Microsoft 365 family of products, video conferencing, file storage, email, project management, etc.
- Sketch: Adept with Sketch, the all-in-one platform for digital design — with collaborative design tools, prototyping and developer handoff.

- Fully proficient in Adobe Suite, expert user of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
- Knowledge of ADA/DDA/Universal Design.
- Exceptional design skills and the ability to communicate ideas verbally and in writing.
- Excellent English communication skills: verbal and written, both in-person and telephone.
- Extreme attention to detail while working efficiently and maintaining a schedule.
- Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure.
- The ability to collaborate on projects with other team members in other countries/timezones.

Hi there! I’m a graphic designer living in Barrie, Ontario, Canada with my husband and Bella, the old English Sheepdog who keeps us both laughing every day.
I’ve been operating remotely from a home office since before the pandemic hit, and working remotely became a thing.
When not working, I spend much of my time hiking, reading, painting or searching for unique pit stops and quirky accommodations to add to the itinerary of our next road trip adventure.

Our Design Process
Define
We begin each project by reading the design brief, discussing your goals and determining your budget and timeline. Then we’ll research your industry, relevant trends and main competition.
Design
Next, we’ll begin brainstorming, sketches and start working on initial design concepts. We will evolve and refine those concepts, and prepare initial designs to present as a first set of proofs.
Refine
Once we receive your feedback, we’ll make adjustments and continue to refine and evolve until you love the final designs (three sets of revisions is standard).
Build
Prepare final design files: develop style guide, work with website developers or send print ready files as needed.
